What is Restorative Dentistry?

Restorative dentistry is defined as “the branch of dentistry that deals with the restoration of diseased, injured, or abnormal teeth to normal function.” The procedures involve restoring your fully functioning mouth while making your smile appear more aesthetically pleasing.

What Are The Types Of Restorative Dentistry?

At Quarry Park Dental, we offer a variety of restorative dentistry services so our patients can choose how they want to enhance their smile. Listed below are just some of the restorative dentistry procedures we can provide.

Composite Fillings. This option is often used when a tooth is cracked, chipped or suffering from a cavity. Some patients will choose this service to fix worn down teeth (often caused by teeth grinding or nail biting). The part of the tooth that is negatively affected will be removed and replaced by a tooth-coloured composite filling.

Crowns. A crown or ‘cap’ is used to put over the defective tooth to restore the natural looking size, shape and colour. This option is often used on patients who have large cracks or chips in their teeth. A crown can also be used when a cavity is too large for a filling.

Dental Implants. We encourage our patients to consider dental implants if they have missing or severely damaged teeth. Dental implants are an artificial root and tooth that is surgically implanted into the patient’s jaw. This option can restore your smile as well as improve chewing, speaking and digestion problems.

Dentures & Partial Dentures. Dentures are similar to dental implants, but they are a removable appliance. Both dentures and partial dentures can be a good replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. The process of getting dentures requires several appointments, however, once you receive your appliance, you will have it for several years to come!

Root Canal Therapy. This treatment option is specific to patients who have a tooth that is affected by decay or infection. When this happens, having a root canal is the only way to save a tooth before it dies and has to be removed all together. We can normally perform this procedure in one appointment, and will often place a crown on the tooth to preserve it.
