It’s hard to believe that Halloween is just around the corner! We understand that Halloween festivities might look a bit different this year. However, we know sweet treats will likely be involved no matter what your plans are! Our team of dental professionals has put together some tips to help you and your family have a healthy Halloween!
Treat (Or Trick) Your Family To Healthy Choices
Halloween just wouldn’t be the same if you couldn’t indulge in one or two of your favourite treats. That being said, it’s not an excuse to have a candy free-for-all! We suggest to try the following:
- Make A Big, Healthy Halloween Dinner.
Try making your family eat a healthy dinner before the festivities begin and your little pumpkins start diving into the sweets. Having a meal beforehand will help your family avoid filling up on candy! BBC Good Food has many spooktacular recipes you could try! - Choose Your Candy Wisely.
Don’t put yourself in a sticky situation this Halloween! Candies like gummies and
taffy take longer for saliva to wash away, which could lead to tooth decay.
- Be A Good Role Model.
Set an example for your family by limiting the amount of candy they can have in one sitting. You can also try buying your Halloween candy the day of so pre-snacking isn’t a temptation! - Follow The Proper Oral Hygiene Routine.
Dental plaque thrives in surgery environments, so it’s especially important to clean your teeth after having a sweet! Remind your family to use a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste and to brush for at least two minutes. Remember to floss to release any stubborn food particles afterwards!
